Product Description
A stoneware matcha cup from the Viola Beuscher studio, partly dipped in a glossy black glaze and made in Germany.
The form is a wide, rounded cup with a stable base, Ø 9 cm and H 6.5 cm, holding 250 ml. It is wide enough to whisk matcha in and deep enough to drink from, so preparing and drinking happen in the same vessel, hot or over ice.
Each cup is thrown on the potter's wheel from grey stoneware clay sourced from the German Westerwald and fired at 1220 °C after 14 days across 12 work steps. The interior carries a clear glossy glaze, the exterior is partly dipped in glossy black, so raw stoneware and deep black meet in a calm contrast. Fired until the body vitrifies, the cup stays food-safe without further sealing and goes in the dishwasher.
The dip is guided by hand, so the line where black meets bare clay sits differently on every cup and no two pieces carry the same contrast.
