Product Description
A stoneware matcha cup from the Viola Beuscher studio, partly dipped in a glossy black glaze and made in Germany.
The form is a wide, rounded cup with a stable base, Ø 9 cm and H 6.5 cm, holding 250 ml. It is wide enough to whisk matcha in and deep enough to drink from, so preparing and drinking happen in the same vessel, hot or over ice.
Each cup is handmade in Germany from grey stoneware clay sourced from the German Westerwald and fired at 1220 °C. From raw clay to the finished piece, it takes 14 days and 12 steps. The interior carries a clear glossy glaze, the exterior is partly dipped in glossy black, so raw stoneware and deep black meet in a calm contrast. The ceramic pieces are food-safe and dishwasher safe.
The dip is guided by hand, so the line where black meets bare clay sits differently on every cup and no two pieces carry the same contrast.
