Matcha cups from the Viola Beuscher studio: wide enough to whisk in, deep enough to drink from, so preparing and drinking happen in the same vessel. Every cup is thrown by hand on the potter's wheel from German Westerwald stoneware and fired at 1220 °C after 14 days across 12 work steps.
Size and use
The matcha cup measures Ø 9 cm and H 6.5 cm and holds 250 ml. That leaves the whisk room to move without matcha going over the rim, hot in winter or poured over ice in summer, and the width also suits a little latte art.
Colours
The cups run in four finishes: Creme under a transparent glossy glaze, the airbrushed pink-to-red Gradient, a deep black Otis dipped in part against the bare stoneware, and a solid glossy Red inside and out. Because glaze and airbrush are guided by hand, no two cups carry the same surface.
Care and seconds
The stoneware is fired until the body vitrifies, so the cups stay food-safe without any further sealing and go in the dishwasher. Cups that leave the kiln with a small cosmetic flaw are sold as seconds at a reduced price, and the flaw never affects use.
