Product Description
A set of four stoneware flat white cups, fully glazed in glossy red, hand-thrown in the Viola Beuscher studio in Germany.
The form is wide and low with a stable base, Ø 8.5 cm and H 5.5 cm, holding 180 ml each. The proportions were developed for one drink in particular: a wide surface gives the microfoam room to sit and leaves space for latte art, while the low wall keeps the ratio of milk to espresso where a flat white wants it.
Each cup is thrown on the potter's wheel from grey stoneware clay and fired at 1220 °C. At this temperature the body vitrifies and becomes food-safe without further sealing. The glossy red glaze covers the whole cup, inside and out, and sets a warm contrast against the coffee.
Because every cup is thrown by hand, the wall thickness and the way the glaze settles differ slightly from piece to piece, so no two cups in the set are identical.
