Handmade mugs from the Viola Beuscher studio in Germany, the generous option for a long morning coffee or a big cup of tea. Each mug is thrown on the potter's wheel from stoneware clay and fired at 1220 °C, so the body vitrifies and stays food-safe without further sealing.
Why a mug
A mug holds more than the cups in our other collections and is made for the drink you sit with rather than the one you finish standing up. The form is thrown with a stable base and a wall thick enough to hold the heat, so the coffee stays warm longer than it would in a thin-walled cup.
Made one at a time
Every mug is thrown individually and finished by hand, which is why no two are identical. Wall thickness, the exact height of the shoulder, and the way the glaze settles differ from piece to piece. That variation is the point of a piece made on the wheel rather than pressed in a mould.
Care
All mugs are dishwasher safe and need no sealing or special treatment. The glazes are food-safe and fired to the same 1220 °C as the rest of the studio's tableware.
