Coffee Cup - Pink & Gold Heart Seconds
Product Description
A stoneware coffee cup in a soft pink glossy glaze with a small hand-painted gold heart inside, made in Germany as part of a limited collaboration with the Düsseldorf jewellery brand Ariane Ernst.
The form is cylindrical with straight walls and a stable base, Ø 7.5 cm and H 6.5 cm, holding 190 ml. That volume takes a double shot with milk without filling to the rim, which is what makes it work for flat white, cappuccino or filter coffee.
Each cup is thrown on the wheel from stoneware clay and fired at 1220 °C. At this temperature the body vitrifies and becomes food-safe without further sealing. The soft pink glossy glaze covers the cup inside and out. After firing, a small heart is painted by hand in gold on the inside, sitting at the bottom of the cup where it only appears once the drink is finished. Because the detail is drawn by hand, its placement and shape vary slightly from piece to piece.
Hand wash recommended. The gold sits on top of the fired glaze rather than under it, so a dishwasher will wear it down over time even though the ceramic itself would take it.
This piece is a studio second, fully functional with small cosmetic flaws. It may be slightly warped, show glaze irregularities, carry fine hairline cracks on the underside, or hold tiny clay specks in the glaze. None of that affects use, and the cup is offered at a reduced price.
