Small Vase - Otis
Product Description
A small stoneware vase from the Otis series with a partial glossy black glaze on the exterior, hand-thrown in our studio in Germany.
The form is upright and slightly tapered, Ø 10 cm and H 18 cm. The narrow opening gathers stems on its own, so a few branches or a small bunch of dried grasses stand where you place them without needing an arrangement.
Each vase is thrown on the potter's wheel from grey stoneware clay and fired at 1220 °C. At this temperature the body vitrifies and holds water without further sealing. The interior carries a transparent glossy glaze, and the exterior is partly covered with a glossy black glaze, so part of the bare grey clay stays visible. Because every vase is glazed individually, the line where the black meets the raw clay sits differently on each piece.
For a single branch, a few short stems, or dried grasses on a shelf, a windowsill or a side table.

Every item is handcrafted in our pottery studio in Frankfurt by our workshop team of six.
It takes about 10 to 14 days to make each piece, depending on the season and weather. The process includes ten steps: wedging, throwing, trimming, stamping, sponging, first firing, sanding, glazing, second firing, and grinding, ensuring that each piece is ready to use.
