The Core Collection is the permanent range of the Viola Beuscher studio in Germany: the forms and glazes we throw again and again, rather than a seasonal drop. Because they stay in the range, a single cup or plate can be added to a set you already own instead of replacing it.
What is in the collection
The range covers a full table. Cups run from espresso through coffee, flat white and tea cups to matcha cups. Bowls run from a 13 cm mini bowl through 15 cm breakfast bowls, pasta and dinner bowls, up to a 30.5 cm serving bowl and the 27 cm pedestal bowl. Plates run from an 11.5 cm saucer through the 19 cm breakfast plate to the 23.5 cm dinner plate. Vases, cutlery rests and complete tableware sets from 6 to 28 pieces round it out.
Series and colours
The permanent series are Nomi, Otis, Yun and Neo, in Creme, Iceblue, Pepe, White Matte and a partial glossy black. Keeping the glazes in the range rather than rotating them with a season is what makes cups, bowls and plates of one colour combinable across series, and what makes a set expandable years after the first purchase.
How the pieces are made
Every piece is thrown on the potter's wheel in our studio in Germany and fired at 1220 °C. At this temperature the stoneware body vitrifies and becomes food-safe without further sealing, and the tableware takes the dishwasher. Because each piece is thrown and glazed by hand, small differences in rim line, glaze depth and colour are normal and are not faults.
