Small handmade ceramic dishes from our studio in Frankfurt am Main. Every piece is shaped by hand and fired at 1220 °C. At that temperature the clay body vitrifies and becomes food-safe without any further sealing, and every dish in this collection is dishwasher safe.
What a small dish is for
At Ø 11.5 cm and H 1.5 cm a saucer sits beneath an espresso cup, catches a used tea bag, or holds olives, salt and condiments at the table. Away from food the same form works as a coaster, a rest for a ring or a pair of earrings, or a base for a candle. Palo Santo dishes hold a burning stick and catch the ash.
The flat form
Our dishes end in a vertical edge rather than a curved rim. The proportion follows the Japanese mamezara, the small bean plate used for individual servings, which is why several of them side by side turn a plain table into a spread of small dishes.
Glazes
Creme dishes carry a transparent glossy glaze that lets the natural tone of the fired clay come through unaltered. Fine variations in surface and tone stay part of each piece, such as small pinholes or a marginally darker rim where the glaze settles.
Sets and care
Saucers are available singly and as sets of two, four and eight. All dishes are dishwasher safe and food-safe without sealing. Made in Germany.
